Baseball Tonight!

I told my workmate that tonight would be a momentous evening of TV.

She looked at me and waited for the punchline.  She knows I don't watch hardly anything but Netflix.

"Baseball starts again," I told her.

I thought I would miss some of it, because I had an evening appointment to get my hair done, but it turned out my hair lady was not feeling well, and so we rescheduled, and I got back in the car and turned on the radio to hear the pregame show.

Ken Korach, one of the A's announcers, was talking to Martie Lurie, another radio guy.  Apparenlty Bill King, the Main Man on the broadcast, had some of accident down in Phoenix--and Ken said he would be on the DL for a while.  I thought a) back in the day when I was a serious fan, I would know exactly waht happened, b) I loved hearing Ken talk about Bill.  There's this love thang that goes on between them, they were truly partners in the business/baseball/radio sense of the world  And Ken said that without Bill here, he didn't feel whole, and that he just wouldn't until Bill came back.  And I listened to this and I thought this is why I still like listening to baseball.  Sometimes I think it's more about Bill and Ken than the players.

When I came home, I turned on the TV to watch the game, noted that the Giants broadcasters were doing the play by play, turned off the sound, and made some phone calls.  Every now and then, I would look up at the screen to see what's happening.  But it was okay to me that I missed things.  I wanted to talk to my friends.
